Description
JOHN IRWIN PATENTED BRASS RAILROAD LANTERN, bail handle, hinged cap impressed "PAT'D MAY 2D 1865 / OCT 24TH 186?" and fitted with an attached rotating wire guard securing tab, colorless globe with wire guard, removable brass font with spring mechanism to underside of base, No. 1 inset collar. Fitted with a J. Sangster burner, thumbwheel marked "J. SANGSTER PATENT. MARCH 25TH 1862". Third quarter 19th century. 14" HOA, 10 3/4" H to top of cap, 5 7/8" D base.

Condition
Very good condition with very minute denting, interior of cap and wire guard with some repairs, globe with a small shallow chip and flakes to base, top with a single flake, font with denting and a separation to base. Burner deflector with denting.
