Biography: George Leslie RappAmerican (1878-1942)Born in Carbondale, Illinois in 1872, American illustrator and architect George Rapp, studied at the University of Illinois School of Architecture. Rapp partnered with his brother to establish Rapp and Rapp Architects, an agency specialized in designing major 20th century theaters, including the Paramount Building in New York City’s Times Square and the Chicago Theater.Rapp was a member of the American Watercolor Society and the Society of Illustrators and published work in Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, The Country Gentleman, McCall’s, and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. In addition to these publications, Rapp also designed illustrations for the United States Military intended to encourage citizens to contribute to war efforts during World War II.
