Outstanding American carved wood and painted horse, late 19th c., made from a single block of wood, 33'' h., 34'' l. The detail and confirmation of this piece suggests that a wealthy horse owner had this carved by a highly skilled craftsman, using his favorite horse as a model. Provenance: Bill Holland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Few small abrasions, but old untouched surface, repair break to one rear leg, repair break to one ear, repaired break one rein, repaired sliver break to one front leg and missing a few areas of the horse's tacking.
