Item Details
Description
North America, Mexico, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. An intriguing example of a hand-carved wooden crucifix depicting Jesus Christ hanging from the cross. The crucifix projects above a three-tiered base bearing diamond and inverted heart appliques. The cross itself features triangular, spear-shaped tips as well as wooden pliers and hammers. Above Christ's head is a plaque reading "INRI," and beneath his feet is a skull, a star-form board, a ball-headed mallet, and a ladder. Layers of yellow, brown, and green pigment accentuate each component of this sculpture and aid in creating an alluring presentation perfect for any collection. Size: 14.75" W x 29" H (37.5 cm x 73.7 cm)
