Jean-Baptiste Stahl (Alsace, 1869-1932) inventor and designer of the phanolith technique, worked at Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach, Germany as head of the factory’s school of drawing. The phanolith molding process is similar, but finer, than the cameo process.
