Irving Berlin Collection: Two Signed Letters, Original Birthday Composition and Additional Lyrics to a Friend for 25 Years, Samuel Hoffman (Rare) (1888-1989) Hailed as one of the greatest songwriters in American History, the acclaim and popularity of Berlin is without equal composing over 1500 songs in his 60 year career including the scores for 20 original Broadway shows and 15 original Hollywood films. Irving Berlin was a close friend to a school teacher, Samuel Hoffman for over 25 years. In 1957, Berlin composed and recorded a song to Hoffman on the occasion of his 81st Birthday which appears to have been on or about July 14th. Only one recording was made and that was exclusively or Mr. Hoffman which was entitled "Sam, Sam The Man What Am".
