Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Letter from a Birmingham City Jail." Philadelphia: American Friends Service Committee, June 1963 (first printed the previous month). 16pp. including pictorial wraps. First edition, second printing of this exceptionally important civil rights publication. Penned in April of 1963, some newspapers declined to print it, but soon, some printed excerpts without his permission. AFSC was the first organization to receive King's permission to publish his letter in response to the response to non-violent protests. (SS6)
