Gallet & Co., Rare MultiChron Navigator GMT Steel Chronograph, Double Boxed, circa 1943 Case: 35.5 mm, stainless steel, two body, stepped bezel, snap on case back, rectangular push buttons, crown at 9 o'clock with push in action for hacking the constant and sweep second hands, 831753 Dial: silvered, luminous Arabic numerals, four red 24 hour numerals, subsidiary dials for the 45 minute register and constant seconds, outermost 1/5th second divisions, luminous blued steel needle hour and second hand, blued subsidiary hands and center sweep, red 24 hour GMT "North" hand Movement: 17 jewels, manual wind column wheel chronograph, Cal. Excelsior Park 4, rhodium plated Band: cloth strap with rhodium plated buckle Signed: Gallet on the dial, case and movement This rare and unique timepiece is accompanied by inner and outer original boxes. The "Multichron Navigator" was the first chronograph wristwatch worldwide with both 12-hour and 24-hour indication. The extra winding crown at 9 o'clock stops the central and subsidiary second hands, which enables synchronization to fractions of a second. The red 24-hour hand can also be used as a compass - pointing North when the regular hour hand is pointed towards the sun.
