Description
13th-15th century AD. A bronze rectangular belt mount bearing a repoussé lion or other feline advancing left against a hatched background, attachment rivet to two corners, piercing for a third, detailing to the head, body and tail, worn beaded border. See Bailey, G., Detector Finds 7,Witham, 2011, p.54, fig.87. 1.58 grams, 25mm (1"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection; previously acquired in Munich, Germany, between 1992 and 1996. Single loop buckle plates with fork spacers were popular in the 13th and 14th centuries. They featured two separated sheets soldered onto forks, each with two rivet holes. In our specimen the rivets are still preserved. For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price [No Reserve]
