Description
Two railroad passes from the St. Louis & Grand Island Railway Co. #1830 (1830), #A878 (1899). Construction of the line began as the St. Joseph and Denver City RR but was completed in 1972 as the St. Joseph and Western between St Joe and Hastings, Nebraska. SJ&W went bankrupt in 1884, and Union Pacific took it out of bankruptcy as the SJ&GI in 1885. The right of way is still a busy section of of the UP between Hastings and Marysville. The management named stations from east to west in alphabetical order, resulting in communities named Alexandria, Belvidere, Carleton, Davenport, Edgar, Fairfield, Glenvil, Hastings, Ingleside, Juniata, Kenesaw, (L is missing), Minden, and Newark along or near the railroad to this day.Date: Country (if not USA): State: NebraskaCity: Provenance:
