Description
Brass Railroad Conductor's brass-plated lantern with a red glass globe. Patent date stamped into the bottom is April 26, 1864, and it is definitely in the style of a pre-1900s lantern. Comments on Railroadiana Online suggest a manufacturing date much later than 1864, and we agree, believing it was made in the 1900-1920s time period. Embossing in the top of the red glass globe reads // DIETZ / V E S T A / NEW YORK, U.S.A. //. Lantern is complete with the kerosene burner with a wick. It stands about 10.25 inches tall without the bail, and it is about 5.25 inches in diameter a the base. No dents or even minor damage other than tarnish on the brass plating. See photo for design and condition details.Date: Country (if not USA): State: City: Provenance:
