One share to Roswell Otis and signed by chairman Peter Woodin and acting secretary George Bennett. Dated March 1835. Number 499. Early in the winter of 1834, a few persons indulging in a wish to emigrate to the West, made known to each other their determination. This company was centered at Hannibal, New York. Otis was one of those share-holders of the "Western Emigration Company" Otis financed and built the first pier in the harbor of Southport (Kenosha, Wisconsin). Bennett was one of the first to embrace the "Western Emigration Company" along with its other founders.
