Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770)
Edo period (1615-1868), dated 1771
A two-volume set of chuban-size books titled Ehon haru no nishiki (Picture Book: The Brocade of Spring), depicting beautiful ladies in different settings with a corresponding waka poem, vol.1 consisting of one page of preface, eight double-page and one-single page of colour illustrations; vol.2 with one single-page and eight double-page of colour illustrations and one page of colophon indicating the artist Suzuki Harunobu, the publishing date Meiwa 8 (1771), the publisher Yamazaki Kinbei, followed by four pages of book advertisements; each volume with the collectors' seals of Hayashi Tadamasa and Heinz Kaempfer with a chitsu cover. Each volume approx., 22cm x 16cm (8 5/8in x 6 5/16in). (3).
