Description
Hood & M. Vinger (early 20th century) for Weller Pottery Co.
earthenware Hudson vases with leaf and berry decoration, two
Zanesville, Ohio, circa 1925
matte glazed ceramic
both with impressed factory marks, artist's names painted on side of vase in black
taller: 3 1/4"dia x 7 3/8"h
Provenance:
The Estate of Joseph Bailey, Sr., Lancaster, South Carolina
Catalog Note:
The vase by Hood has been glazed and fired twice. The Vinger vase has been slip decorated and bisque fired but was never given the Hudson overglaze (Weller's equivalent of Rookwood's Vellum). This is a nice study in how heavy slip decoration is done and what Hudson pieces look like without an overglaze.
