Oriental Carved Mahogany Figure of the Laughing Buddha, 20th c., the reclining figure holding the pearl of wisdom, and attended by acolytes and wildlife, on a custom carved ebonized base, H.- 5 in., W.- 12 1/4 in., D.- 5 1/8 in., Stand- H.- 1 in., W.- 13 3/4 in., D.- 6 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age. Inlaid left eye of Buddha now lacking. Eyes and teeth on smaller figures chipped or lacking. Minor age cracks to reverse of figure. Leg of small standing figure (holding Buddha's leg) now cracked but not detached. Excellent skill to carving. Piece not permanently attached to base.
