LeRoy Neiman, born June 8, 1921 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and died June 20, 2012, is an American artist known for his bright colors, semi-abstract paintings, and screen prints of athletes and sporting events. He also made some movie appearances, especially in the Rocky saga, where he hosted some boxing matches. Neiman was abandoned by his father at a young age. Neiman and his mother, Lydia, were forced to fend for themselves. Neiman is distinguished only by the drawing. In 1942, Neiman dropped out of high school to enlist in the United States Army, where he spent four years before returning to St. Paul to complete his high school diploma. Neiman studied at the Chicago Institute School of Art, then the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois.
