Description
Oil on board by Martin Saldana, a largely self taught African American folk artist from Denver, CO who started painting relatively late in life. In 1950, at the age of 46, he received an invitation to attend an art class at the Dener Art Museum. When he arrived he was informed it was a class only for children, but since he was there he was invited to stay and participate. Much of his work continued to reflect a wonderful fok art naivety such as the example offered here. In recognition of his contributions to his craft, he was given a One Man Show at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center in 2012-13. Painting size, 18 in. x 10 in. signed bottom, condition very good.
