Up for auction is a recent gallery acquisition, an original William R Owen oil painting of a Madame Munchhaufen of Germany. The reverse of the canvas reads "Christiane Sophia gebf von Munchhaufen vermahlte von Hanston" or translated to "Christiane Sophia born in Munchhausen, married Von Honsaton". William R Owen was a famous painter who lived between 1769 and 1825 (approximately during the time of the American Revolution). Known for his portraits of William Pitt the Younger and King George IV, his oil paintings are in art museums around the world including the National Portrait Gallery in London. He painted a variety of themes, but fixated on personal portraits and was offered a knighthood, but declined. This auction includes: (1) "Madame Munchhaufen" Oil Painting by William R. Owen (1769-1825) Condition is considered used and use photographs as reference to condition. The painting is approximately over two hundred years old and is in good condition. No flaking or chipping of the paint from heat exposure or UV light damage. The reverse has the description of the subject written in German. The dimensions are 31" x 38" and the shipping weight is 9 LBS.
