Description: Signed and dated in the plate, signed in pencil, printed on smooth, cream wove paper. Unframed.
Note: Joseph Steib was born in 1898 in Mulhouse. He studied plastic arts at the drawing school of Mulhouse in the years 1925-1926. Before the war, he earned a good reputation as a miniaturist painter by sketching scenes of genres and illustrating Alsatian legends. During the thirties, he participated in the Salon of French artists in Paris by sending regular tables. His major work, The Salon des Reves, created during the Second World War, "gives a vision as naive as fierce Nazi regime, its high dignitaries and the unbearable yoke inflicted on Alsace during the annexation of the Alsace-Moselle." Joseph Steib died in Brunstatt in 1966. Georg Baselitz will say about it: "In Alsace, you have a very great painter: Joseph Steib
