Condition _ Buffet _ commensurate with age ; Plate Rack needs some restoration_ European Oak During the first half of the 1700Ís, European Oak (not to be confused with American Oak, as the patina and grain are totally different) was used on the finest pieces of furniture. Also, of interest on this piece, is the absence of the two side flower petals of the fleur-de-lis at the center of the bottom apron, and the top center of the plate rack. Faint traces of where they were can be seen. Obviously, this piece was made during the reign of a King of France, and when Napoleon took over, the fleur-de-lis was banned. This buffet has a backless shelf with cornice . The simplistic ornamentation of this piece with c _scrolls, fielded panels, and a bowed symmetrical center door panel with two asymmetrical side door panels, giving it an overall unpretentious yet elegant feel. There is a center drawer and a tiny drawer on the left side. The hardware is pewter, with 2 operative keys. It has a wonderfully rich and deep patina.H:36 5/8 W:82 1/4 D:21 1/8.
