Portrait of Napoleon's Scottish bodyguard Captain Alexander Macpherson with authentication paperwork. Painting comes with document admitting him a Freeman of Dumfries 8th August 1799, certificate from the Old Lodge of Dumfries admitting MacPherson as a Master Mason, George the Third's commission as Ensign in the 6th, letter from Kensington Palace dated 14th November 1814 inviting Macpherson to bring his son to report to the Duke, letter from the Horse Guards dated July 1814, George the Third's commission as Lieutenant in the 5th Royal Veteran Battn, letter to Miss Anne Macpherson placing her on the benevolent fund, and a typed detailed provenance from previous owner. Measures 32.25 by 42.25 inches. Needs cleaning, some craquelure, overall in very good condition for age.
