Description
DELACROIX EUGENE: (1798-1863) French Romantic Artist. A series of original black pen and ink sketches in the hand of Delacroix, unsigned, one page, oblong 4to, n.p., n.d. On a sheet of plain paper Delacroix has executed various preliminary sketches, including a pineapple and other fruit as well as two rough outlines of human figures. With a contemporary annotation signed ('FV') to the verso by Frederic Villot, confirming that the sketches were made by Delacroix, and a more recent pencil annotation to the base of the verso, also confirming that the drawings were made by Delacroix and certified by Villot. Some light creasing to one corner of the page, not affecting the drawings. About VG Frederic Villot (1809-1875) French printmaker and friend of Delacroix. Villot served as paintings curator of the Louvre Museum from 1848-61.
