Description

1820's portraits of the artist Cephas Thompson's children, Cordelia and William Henry Thompson, on wood panels ”signed” with the C.THOMPSON impressed brand in lower left corner. Set in simple, new gilt/black frames. Image 22 7/8” x 28”H, Overall 25.5”W x 31”H.

Condition

Back of panels now with attached wooden joined board for support, cleaned, restored, new varnish applied. William Henry: minimal in-painting on peripheral areas, overall image condition is good, minimal (old) split to panel, now controlled by added back support Cordelia: a good amount of in-painting on right ear & hair, her right shoulder and parts of dress. Face is great original Panel with a deeper split, now stabilized and with a fair amount of in-painted areas near the split.
