Description
Ancient Egypt, late Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 25th to 30th Dynasty, ca. 744 to 343 BCE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting Hathor, the goddess of music, love, dance, and motherhood, and one of the oldest Egyptian deities dating back to the Old Kingdom period (ca. 2686 to 2181 BCE). Hathor's visage bears slender eyes, bovine-like ears, and a lengthy, corded wig, all beneath a tiered upper plinth with a perforated suspension bale, and all covered in layers of deep blue glaze. Size: 0.66" W x 0.93" H (1.7 cm x 2.4 cm)
Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

Condition
Minor abrasions and encrustations, with softening to some finer details, and light pitting, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to glaze pigment.
