He worked for many years in New York doing illustrations for advertising agencies and most of the major magazines. His work assignments often included historical subjects dealing with the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. As a result of this work experience, he has a continued interest in historical subjects; and his paintings are often a reflection of this interest.
