Thomas Patten (active 1760 - 1762, British), hand coloured aquatint engraving entitled An East View of Montreal in Canada, engraved by Pierre Charles Canot (1710 - 1777, French), published London 1768. Fine early view of Montreal, drawn by Thomas Patten during the Seven Years War, shortly after the capture of the town by the British, considered the first realistic general view of Montreal. Marked - An East View of Montreal, in Canada Vue Orientale de Montréal, en Canada / / drawn on the spot by Thomas Patten ; engraved by P. Canot, includes a legend identifying the General Hospital, The Recollects, St. Sulpicius, The Nunnery, The Jesuit's Church, and The Fort. Engraving measures 14 x 21 inches W within matting, Frame measures 24 x 28 inches.
