Pool on the Ausable, c. 1871, signed lower right "A.H. Wyant", oil on canvas, 17-1/4 x 23-1/4 in.; period carved gilt wood and composition frame, 28 x 34 in.
Provenance: George Haines, Stamford, Connecticut
Note: Frame bears old label verso discussing this painting: "...this painting is mentioned in Scribner's Encyclopedia of Paintings, page 453 volume 4...This painting was painted in 1871. It is similar to the one Corcoran Gallery (sic.)Washington, but is of much superior quality. The picture has been bought from the estate of George Haines Stamford Conn. Haines bought it from Wyant."Frame bears label for Marshall Field and Company, Chicago, Illinois , with an illegible artist name. Presumably the frame was originally on a different painting.
