Description
A Sihuas Textile Panel Peru, c. 500 BC - 100 AD This fragment of a larger garment shows two figures with one long serpentine arm holding up a trophy head plus three trophy heads held from other appendages . The alien-looking figures may represent a variation of the traditional Huari/Sihuas Central Rayed Deity, or a version of the Huari Staff God, or supernatural attendants. Woven in natural tan camelid wool with a green dyed background in tapestry weave. In very good condition; professionally mounted to linen on stretcher bars. Provenance: A Private Collection, New York, NY Economos Works of Art, Santa Fe, NM Dimensions: panel 15 ½ x 9 inches; frame 19 x 12 ½ inches
