(Source: romanostefanelli.com)Romano Stefanelli was born in 1931 in Florence where he still lives and works today in is studio in via Sant Egidio.
Following his studies with Maestro Pietro Annigoni, from whom he learned various artistic and graphic techniques, he embarked on a personal search for a relationship of continuity/discontinuity with traditional models and went on to become a multi-faceted artist whose work range from still-lifes to landscapes, from nudes to portraits, frescos and mural tempera paintings, from lithographs to etchings and engravings, from sculpting and medal designing to the crafting of jewelery using the techniques of embossing and chisel-work.
Since 1968 when he held his first exhibition in the Levi Gallery in Milan, Stefanelli has exhibited in the most important Italian cities as well as abroad. His most acclaimed frescos include the ceiling of the choir stalls in the Abbazia di Montecassino, the groups of parietal frescoes in the Churches of Santa Maria Assunta a Quarrata (Pistoia) and Santa Maria a Massarella (FI), and individual works in the Churches of San Michele Arcangelo a Ponte Buggianese(PT) and in Santa Maria a Torri(FI).
The artist is currently working on Sacro Cuore di Gesu after having completed the fresco of the Battesimo di Gesu in Albenga. As far as his graphic work is concerned, the satirical portfolio entitled La Gigioneide (1965) is on fundamental importance, as are the I fantasmi di Venezia(1973) and la Versilia (1977).His sculptures include female nudes, heads and designs created specifically for the State Mint.
