DESCRIPTION: Thomas Hoadley (American, b. 1949). Colored porcelain bowl with gold leaf. Artist monogram marked to bottom. Thomas Hoadley was born and raised in New England. He received his B.A. in studio art from Amherst College. He worked in architecture for a short time and later apprenticed with potter Malcolm Wright who creates wood fired pottery in the tradition of Japanese style, Karatsu. Hoadley then obtained a Master of Science in Ceramics at Illinois State University. Hoadley's colored porcelain is made with the Japanese technique of Nerikomi. His work is part of collections in many museums including the National Museum of American Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts and the White House Craft Collection.
