U.S. M1855 .58 Cal. Percussion Rifled Musket. Exceptionally fine condition. All metal bright, clean, and smooth, just a few small spots of hardened grease. Deep crisp proof marks with 1858 date at breech. Long range rear sight, brass nose cap. Remarkably, although the lock screws are present, the lock itself is missing. Wood also exceptionally nice with deep rich patina and sharp edges, just some minor scattered dents, but no inspector's cartouche visible. The butt stock exhibits beautiful curl in the walnut. Other than the lock, complete and original in every respect including the ramrod. An exceptionally nice '55 with tremendous potential.
