CIRCA 1ST CENTURY GROUP OF 7 BLOWN ROMAN VESSELS
comprising:
a) a piriform bottle in brown glass with cane sections of blue, violet and seafoam green forming a marbled pattern, with baluster neck and out splayed horizontal rim; height: 15.8 cm (6 1/4 in.)
b-c) a pair of lachrymatories in green glass with narrow cylindrical necks with slightly everted narrow rims, on bell-form bases; height: 16, 16.5 cm (6 1/4, 16 1/2 in.)
d) a amphoriskos in green glass, of narrow bulbous form with snake-form trail handles; height: 12.5 cm (4 7/8 in.)
e) a bottle in green glass with bulbous body and short cylindrical neck; height: 10.1 cm (4 in.)
f) a bottle in green glass with overall iridescence, with spherical body, short cylindrical neck and slightly everted wide rim; height: 10 cm (4 in.)
a cup in blue-green glass, with slightly tapered cylindrical body with a band below the rim, on round foot; height: 10 cm (4 in.)
PROVENANCE
Private collection, New York, since before 1967. (Copy of insurance appraisal available upon request)
CONDITION
a) In overall age-appropriate condition. Beyond a shallow chip to the base of the neck, no issues apparent to the naked eye.
b, c) In overall very good age-appropriate condition with overall surface accumulation and iridescent patination, largely apparent to the interiors of the rims.
d) In overall very good age-appropriate condition with overall surface accumulation and iridescent patination to the top of the neck and the interior of the rim.
e) In stable age-appropriate condition with overall surface accumulation. Repaired surface cracks throughout. Small chips to the rim. Two small losses to the body, the larger 8 mm long. Iridescent flecks overall.
f) In age-appropriate condition with fragile iridescent patination. Hole to the rim measuring approximately 1.8 x 1.8 cm (3/4 x 3/4 in.)
In overall excellent age-appropriate condition. Beyond overall surface accumulation, no issues apparent to the naked eye.
