Antique Yi Indigo-Dyed Ceremonial Tunic, China, Early 20th C. Very large woman's tunic known as "Dragon Wife's Robe" or "Longpo Yi" and worn during a funeral ceremony by a female relative of the deceased. The garment is formed from almost rectangular sections of pieced indigo dyed cotton tabby cloth, with appliqued silk patchwork squares of varied hand and machine made cottons and silk in shades of blue, brown, rust and yellow. Cotton, silk. Size: 59'' x 116'', (150 x 295 cm). Provenance: Ex. Roger Hollander collection.
