Yi Lacquered Leather Bowl, China, Mid 18th C. A lacquered leather bowl, painted on the outside in red and black and yellow (which appears golden because of the lacquer). Dragon and phoenix motifs symbolizing supernatural power, wisdom, strength, and immortality, resurrection, life after death, respectively. Leather, paint and lacquer. Size: 2.25'' x 6.25'' x 6.25'' (6 x 16 x 16 cm). Provenance: Ex. Roger Hollander collection.
