CURRIER & IVES, publisher. The Victory of Roanoke, Feby. 8th 1862. The brilliant bayonet charge of the New York 9th Hawkins Zouaves. Lithograph with hand-coloring, n.d., image 12 1/4 x 7 15/16 in. (15 1/2 x 11 5/8 in. framed), on wove paper, a few spots of toning, not examined out of frame. Showing the regiment wearing the correct Zouave uniform with blue pants, jackets, and cummerbunds with red hats and shirts.

BIRDSALL, James H. 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. printed Grand Army of the Republic calling card (light wear to print). Notes that Birdsall served in the 51st New York Volunteer's regimental band as a part of Burnside's Division. Birdall enlisted on 4 October 1861 at Butternuts, NY as a musician. He was commissioned into the band of the 51st NY on 23 October 1861, mustering out on 17 August 1862 in Washington, D.C.

(chipping). A poem set to the tune of the Star-Spangled Banner commemorating the bravery of the Hawkins' Zouaves. Surrounded by a decorative border featuring figures, including an African American boy.

Roanoke Association. [Boston?]: n.p., 1909. 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. handbill (staining, old creases with start of separation). With an image of "Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, Our Old Commander, 1861." An invitation to the "47th anniversary of the capture of Roanoke Island, North Carolina" held in Boston.

The New York Herald. Whole Number 9359. New York: 25 April 1862. 8pp., folio, 15 3/8 x 21 3/4 in. Disbound (small stain at top margin). With front-page article with "Important from Fortress Monroe." with reporting of Colonel Rush Hawkins wounded in action: "Colonel Hawkins Wounded and His Adjutant Killed." The article continues: "The report that a fight occurred last Tuesday near the canal locks of Elizabeth City, N.C., between Colonel Hawkins' regiment and a force of rebels...Colonel Hawkins was wounded in the right breast, and his Adjutant killed."
