[CIVIL WAR - ILLINOIS]. WOOD, Wales W. (ca 1837-1909). A History of the Ninety-Fifth Regiment Illinois Volunteers. Chicago: Tribune Company's Book and Job Printing Office, 1865.

8vo. Appendix with charts. (Some spotting.) Original publisher's brown cloth (spine sunned).

FIRST EDITION account of the 95th Illinois in the Civil War. Wood was a lawyer from Belvidere, IL when he enlisted on 4 September 1862 at Rockford, IL as a 1st lieutenant, commissioned into Field & Staff of the 95th on the same day. He was promoted on 4 September 1862 to 1st lieutenant and adjutant before mustering out on 17 August 1865 at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL. He was a member of GAR Post #164 (Hurlbut) in Belvidere after the war. The 95th saw service in the Vicksburg campaign, Red River campaign, and the Battle of Nashville among others.
