Description
Fine content partly-printed war-date D.S., 1p. legal folio, Augusta, Oct. 25, 1864, vividly illustrating the abuse of slaves impressed for labor by the Confederate authorities. The document, a 'Form 40 - Special Requisition' and signed by Major & Q.M. G. W. Cunningham, issues a jacket, pants, shoes, drawers and shirts to the slave. Cunningham notes: '...said negro is almost naked and has received no clothing for the last 4 months, during which he has been borne on my Rolls...' Slave owner T. J. Byrd has signed at bottom as well. Evenly toned, else very good.
