Description
**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed pendant of Sekhmet, the lioness-headed goddess of war, military strategy, and healing. Covered in lustrous blue glaze, Sekhmet presents in a striding pose with her left leg forward while wearing an ankle-length sheath dress. Her arms are draped to her sides while her short-cut mane drapes across the tops of her shoulders. Almond-shaped eyes, a condensed snout, perky ears, and a furrowed brow comprised her protruding visage, and her head is surmounted by a sun disc with a frontal uraeus cobra. A suspension hole is situated in the middle of the dorsal pillar to enable this figure to be worn as a pendant. Size: 0.5" W x 2.125" H (1.3 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896
