**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, Trajan, ca. 98 to 117 CE. A silver AR denarius coin and Rome minted, ca. 101 to 102 CE. Obverse: Laureate head right. Reverse: Victory standing right on prow, holding wreath and palm. RIC II 59; RSC 241. Size: 0.72" Diameter (1.8 cm); silver quality: 97.08%; weight: 3.4 grams
The Emperor Trajan had many accomplishments during his reign. Perhaps it is the triumphal column in Rome's center, that bears his name, that is best remembered. The column which was completed in 113 CE is located in Trajan's Forum and is just to the north of the Roman Forum. It is a magnificent free-standing column with beautiful spiral bas relief that describes the epic wars between the Romans and Dacians.
