Felix Perez (1949-2017)

Felix Perez grew up in the San Fernando Valley and began producing art as a child. After high school he studied art and pursued a job producing large paintings for commercial sales. During that period he became a very proficient painter with oils on canvas.

His fine art paintings and murals were almost exclusively figurative and reflect his involvement in the Chicano community throughout his life. They are mostly oil on canvas, although the murals were usually painted on available surfaces.

By the 1980s he was living in the high desert and was taking a few refresher courses in art in Lancaster, Ca. When the major Chicano art project known as the Border Art Workshop was formed, Perez became an active member.

Felix Perez paintings are in many important collections of Chicano art. He was known as a humble man with great talent and a heart for helping people. For years he served as a counselor helping kids stay out of trouble.
