Description
Possibly Ernest Martin Hennings (Am. 1886-1956), framed oil on canvas board, landscape with figures in the foreground of a rambling villa, priced verso and inscribed "Miss O'Brien, of O'Brien & Jacobus Gallery - 161 East Erie - Thursday", in a vintage rustic carved wood frame. 14" by 14" (sight). As is condition, damage and losses to lower left corner area, in need of cleaning. Provenance: Recently discovered in a Chicago attic, together with the previous lot. Hennings was schooled in Chicago and in 1917 was sponsored on a tour in Taos, New Mexico by Carter Harrison, a former mayor of Chicago, and Oscar Meyer, noted meat packing baron, and in 1924 Hennings became a full time Taos resident where he remained for the rest of his career. During the interim, he had conducted sales of his New Mexico art at Marshall Field & Company in Chicago.
