Description
Jasper Francis Cropsey (February 18, 1823 - June 22, 1900) was an important American landscape artist of the Hudson River School. Greenwood lake was one of his favorite subjects and he painted from this spot for about 2 years. You can see the changes in the landscape by examining his works from year to year. This painting dates from the late 1880's. It bears his signature in the lower left. Condition of the painting is very good with some minor crazing. It has been re-stretched on the original frame. Back of the fame (believed to be original) has been reinforced with newer hanging blocks. Overall dimensions are 32 by 46 inches, image is 21 by 35 inches.
