Description
RARE Silver Gel Photo of the USS Kentucky BB-6 circa 1910. Original Signed Silver Gel Print of The B-17 All American after taking a German hit signed by the photographic printer Torre. Inscribed by one American Hero to another American Hero. - George, With deep appreciation, Elton- these brief words underline the heroic, efforts of Co-Pilot George Engle Jr. to safely land the remaining shell of this wrecked B-17 carrying 10 souls over a battlefield, they were written by the man who sat up front, in a glass dome, the Ball Turret Gunner - Elton Conda, whose life was saved by the skills of his band of brothers, by that co-pilot. The Boeing B-17 All American III suffered much: a left horizontal stabilizer was torn completely off, and the aircraft was nearly cut in half by the collision. Matt shows age in foxing and color fade, tanning. The print is in fine condition and would benefit from archival acid-free matt and UV protective glass. The original vintage frame remains in very good condition. Silver Gel Print size : 10.5 x 13.5 inches Frame size : 20 x 24 inches. The bomber's flight is said to have yielded one of the most famous photographs of World War II and has been linked with the phrase -Comin' in on a Wing and a Prayer.- It inspired the 414th Bombardment Squadron's emblem, an image of a puppy praying atop an aircraft's tail section.
