Inscribed 'Very Sincerely Yours, Roald Amundsen' on front flyleaf of volume I, with laminated Certificate of Authenticity included. Amundsen's account of his conquest of the South Pole. The expedition was made in competition with Captain Robert Falcon Scott. Amundsen and his party reached the Pole in December 1911, 34 days before Scott. As with many copies of the U.S. edition, this copy was issued without the folding diagram of the Fram at the end of Appendix 1, although it is called for in list of illustrations. Spence 16.
