Antique carved wooden Cult idol of Maximon, The Patron Saint of Drinking and smoking ,also called San Simón,who originally was a Mayan deity and folk saint. Maximón is said to represent both light and dark, and to be a trickster. He is both a womanizer and a protector of couples. His priests and followers consume large amounts of alcohol. Traditional catholic priests of the region consider him the Devil. This cult idol of Saint maximon was collected in Guatemala in the 1970's. It is an original traditionally used example that measures 7.5 inches tall x 4 inches wide, and was part of the permanent display at the Metamora Museum of Oddities, Metamora Indiana
