BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Michigan, Gerd Koch became a painter and art teacher in California, where he settled in Ventura. He earned a BFA degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, and an MFA from the University of California at Santa Barbara.In 1998, on the campus of California State University at Camarillo, he co-founded Studio Channel Islands Art Center, which was a large area with four galleries, a sculpture garden and studios for thirty artists. As a board member, he curated exhibitions, many which were huge paintings. He also curated a John Nava Exhibition of 30 to 40 large tapestry studies and paintings for a Cathedral project.Koch was an original member of the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1958. From 1960 to 1961, he was Professor of Painting and Drawing at Ventura College, and then held the same position from 1967 until retirement in 1999.Memberships include the National Watercolor Society, which he served three times as elected Juror for the International Annual Exhibition. He was made an Honorary member of the Ventura Art Association.
