BIOGRAPHY:
Aldo Crivelli was a Swiss painter, archaeologist and journalist.Aldo Crivelli was the son of Bernardino von Ponte Tresa and Angioletta Pellini. After completing the teachers' seminar in Locarno in 1929, he studied at the Scuola delle Arti in Monza , where he received a diploma in decorative arts . He trained as an archaeologist through excavations in the Canton of Ticino and in 1943 published the Atlante preistorico e storico della Svizzera italiana, the first overview of the sites in Ticino. He taught at cantonal vocational schools until 1944.Crivelli founded the Rivista Storica Ticinese in 1938 , which was published until 1946. As a journalist he wrote regularly in newspapers and magazines under the pseudonyms Lallo Vicredi, Settebello and Gavroche . From 1944 to 1961 he was cantonal inspector of museums and archaeological sites and from 1958 cantonal curator of monuments. He led numerous excavations in the prehistoric and Roman necropolises in Muralto, Giubiasco and in the Leventina Valley.Crivelli published several books and articles on art and archeology, including those on Ticino artists.Even active as a painter and researcher, he wrote the two books Architetti Beretta da Brissago (1934) and Artisti ticinesi (4 volumes, 1966-1971). He took part in various group exhibitions and was celebrated with a solo exhibition in Locarno in 1975. Today his artistic heritage is kept in the Fondazione Museo Mecri in Minusio, which regularly organizes thematic exhibitions.
