A Japanese Hanging Scroll Painting of Surugu Cho

Meiji period (1868-1912), ink and colors on silk, a very finely painted scene of Surugu cho similar in viewpoint and style to the woodblock prints by both Hiroshige and Hokusai during the Edo period, this area was considered a fine spot to view the snow-capped Mt. Fuji, a national symbol of Japan, and the scene shows the busy life of the street with pedestrians, porters, and children at play, painting by a skilled hand, but unsigned.
DOA 39 1/2 x 23 1/4 in., Sight size 16 1/4 x 22 1/2 in.
Condition
Mounting has wear and loss to edges and cracking with loss to bottom roller; some light creases and a few light vertical scratches to lower part of painting; some small minor spots of staining; toning to silk.
