Description
This is a fascinating battle plan illustration of the 1755 Battle of Lake George, which was the first British victory over the French in the French and Indian War. The map and plans were based on sketches by S Blodget, a provisioner for Sir W Johnson's army. The battle plan is divided into two parts consisting of the first and second engagements of the battle. The sheet also includes bird's-eye plans of Fort Edward and Fort William Henry, as well as a strip map on the left of the Hudson River from New York to Albany, and continuing to Lake George. All original examples are extremely rare. This example was made by R. H. Pease in Albany in 1852, who based it on Jefferys' plan in pocession of the New York State Library.
