Cover with Printing Date of July 1, 1863, rare Civil War Booklet titled, "The National Conscription Act of 1863." It measures 3" x 4.75", Cleveland, 32 pages, plus original tan covers, 4 pages are advertisements. Minor soiling. Boldly titled: "The United States Conscription Law of 1863, Official and Complete" with its fully intact original light orange paper cover. This booklet details the specifics for the Union's Civil War "Conscription" laws passed by Congress in 1863. This new law led to the Draft Riots in New York in 1863. (A similar size and issued booklet of this type regarding the Emancipation Proclamation recently sold for several thousand dollars at auction.) We sold a similar example over a decade ago in our EAHA Auction of December 12, 2005, Lot 457, selling then at $1,210 plus another example published in New York sold in our August 28, 2015 Auction, Lot 2002, which sold for $1,920. This "National Conscription Act of 1863" Booklet is in very choice, original condition.
